Odisha Colleges to Hold Special Hockey Awareness Sessions for Students

Bhubaneswar: In an effort to promote hockey and raise awareness among students, both government and private colleges throughout the state of Odisha will conduct special educational sessions. The Higher Education Department has mandated that college principals hold these sessions once a week, with the designated day being Monday, in an open campus space.

A letter from the Higher Education Department to all college authorities emphasized the importance of highlighting and instilling an appreciation for the game of hockey among the current generation. The government has provided specific directives for educational institutions to follow in order to underscore the history and significance of hockey during student gatherings.

These weekly sessions will gather students in an open space to showcase the rich history of hockey through readings in both English and Odia. As an added incentive, students will be offered chocolates or sweets, with expenses covered from available contingency funds, as clarified by the department.

During these sessions, flexible banners spotlighting hockey’s legacy will be installed in key locations on college campuses. Photographs of these gatherings, along with the banners, will be sent to the Higher Education Department and shared on social media to reach a wider audience.

Notably, the Odisha government has demonstrated its commitment to hockey by sponsoring the Men’s and Women’s Hockey World Cup in 2020 and 2023, as well as supporting both the Men’s and Women’s Hockey National Teams from 2018 to 2023.
