Odisha Urges Caution as Covid Cases Rise Ahead of New Year Celebrations

Bhubaneswar: In light of the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Odisha, Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra has advised individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, cold, and cough to celebrate New Year’s Eve at home. Mishra disclosed that an additional COVID-19 positive case was reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the December total to 14 cases. The current active COVID-19 tally in the state is 13, with one case having successfully recovered.

While Mishra acknowledged the overall downward trend of Covid-19 cases in the country, he highlighted the possibility of a spike. The central government has advised preparedness, prompting the state to instruct hospitals to make necessary arrangements. Mishra emphasized the importance of avoiding crowded places, wearing masks, and celebrating the New Year responsibly at home.

Capital Hospital Director Laxmidhar Sahoo assured the public of their readiness for such situations, clarifying that although the hospital is not specifically designated for COVID-19 cases, a fever clinic has been established. Sahoo urged people to exercise caution, maintain social distancing, and carefully consider the necessity of attending gatherings.
