Odisha EOW Arrests 3 Cyber Fraudsters Including 2 From Rajasthan

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Economic Offence Wing (EOW) arrested three cyber criminals, including two from Rajasthan on Tuesday.

The arrested cyber criminals included Mahmud Khan and Munfed Khan from Rajasthan and Anil Khiller from Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The fraudsters had opened around 2000 mule accounts in the name of innocent village dwellers of Odisha, Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal. These mule accounts were used for illegal money laundering.

Several persons in Nabarangpur district were cheated by them as they promised that the account holders would get monetary benefits under different government schemes. But the accounts in the name of these villagers were used for illegal money transactions, which was never suspected by the account holders.

Khiller of Mayurbhanj had sent 1200 SIM cards to the cheats in Rajasthan.

The EOW has also found the involvement of some other Odias in the racket.

Interrogation of five local accused arrested earlier led to the recent arrests. The fraudsters of Rajasthan were paying Rs 2,000 to their agents for the opening of each mule account in Odisha.
