Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association Threatens Fresh State-Wide Strike from Dec 1

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Bus Owners’ Association has declared an indefinite strike beginning on December 1, pending the fulfillment of their charter of demands by the State government.

The decision was reached during a General Body meeting of the association. In a symbolic gesture of protest, the association will hold a Dharna (sit-in) in front of the Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar during the upcoming Winter Session, starting from November 22. Approximately 1,000 bus owners are expected to participate in the agitation.

The association’s demands include urging the government to refrain from launching bus services under the LAccMI scheme from block headquarters to district headquarters. This move comes after the outfit temporarily suspended its stir until October 31 following discussions with the Transport Minister. Additionally, the association has decided not to provide buses for hire during political events organized by the ruling party.

The strike is a response to the contentious LAccMI scheme, and the association aims to intensify its protest in the days ahead.
