Sambalpur MEMU Passenger Train Derails After Colliding with Stray Cow, No Casualties Reported

Sambalpur: A Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) passenger train travelling from Jharsuguda to Sambalpur derailed this evening near Sarala in Sambalpur district after colliding with a stray cow. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties in this incident.

According to reports, while the train was on the Sarla-Sambalpur route, it encountered a sudden intrusion by a cow onto the tracks, causing at least four wheels of a coach on the 08169 Jharsuguda-Sambalpur MEMU passenger special train to derail at approximately 6:25 PM.

Specifically, the fourth coach from the locomotive witnessed a trolley derailment due to the collision with the cow, temporarily blocking the railway line. It’s worth noting that no injuries or casualties have been reported, and the estimated time for track restoration is two hours, as stated by a railway official.

In response to the incident, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sambalpur and their team have already arrived at the scene, and restoration efforts are in progress. Additionally, an Accident Relief Train, equipped with track restoration materials and medical supplies, has also reached the site.
