Odisha Tableu Set to Miss Republic Day Parade For 3rd Consecutive Year

Bhubaneswar: For the third consecutive year, Odisha’s tableau might not be seen in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

A meeting of the expert committee was held by the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday in Delhi with representatives of the 14 participating states and seven participating ministries.

However, Odisha was not included despite the Centre praising its tableau proposal in the prior four meetings.

“The ministry does not announce whether or not a state tableau is chosen for the parade. We assume the Odisha tableau is not included in the 2023 parade because this was the last meeting before the Republic Day camp gets up in Delhi, a higher official of the I & PR department was quoted as saying.

Replicas of the Mukteswar temple’s Torana, Mahari, and Ghumura dance forms, as well as the horse and chariot wheels from the Konark Sun Temple, are included in the state’s tableau. Eminent artist Gajendra Sahoo and a group of sculptors designed it as a representation of the artistic talent, culture, and tradition of Odisha.

Sahoo further reported that four meetings were held on December 15 and that the experts praised the tableau created by Odisha and recommended making a minor adjustment to the music that accompanied the tableau.

The music was subsequently composed by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and Ajay Choudhury.

Mahendra Prakash Gupta, the Director (Ceremonials) of the Ministry of Defence, stated that since meetings with various states regarding the Republic Day parade are still ongoing and the final list won’t be made public until January 23, it is premature to say whether or not the Odisha tableau has been finalised.
