Odisha to Witness Heavy Rainfall: IMD Predicts Fresh Low-Pressure Area Over BoB by Sept 5

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a new low-pressure area is likely to develop over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 5. This forecast comes amid enhanced rainfall activities in several parts of Odisha.

According to the IMD, Odisha has recorded 837.6mm of rainfall from June 1 to September 1, 2024, which is slightly below the normal average of 931.9mm for this period. While one district reported excess rainfall, 20 districts experienced normal rainfall, and nine districts faced deficient rainfall.

A gradual decrease in rainfall activity is expected over the next few days. However, certain districts may still witness light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. From September 5 onwards, heavy rainfall is anticipated in some parts of the state.

Weather Forecast:

– Day 4 (05.09.2024 to 06.09.2024):

– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Gajapati districts.

– Day 5 (06.09.2024 to 07.09.2024):

– Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorms with lightning are likely in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
