IMD Issues Yellow Warning as Thunderstorms & Lightning Threaten 25 Odisha Districts on Sep 26

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for Odisha due to the prevailing monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation. Over the next 24 hours, thunderstorms with lightning are expected in 25 districts of the state. This weather pattern is expected to persist for the next two days.

According to the IMD regional centre, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea and its vicinity around September 29th. This is anticipated to lead to the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over the north Andaman Sea and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal within the subsequent 24 hours. The system is then expected to move west-northwestwards with the possibility of gradual intensification.

In terms of recent weather developments, the Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from parts of southwest Rajasthan on September 25th, 2023, which is slightly later than its normal withdrawal date of September 17th in this region.

Expectations for the weather in Odisha over the next two days include light to moderate rain/thundershowers. Interior Odisha districts are likely to experience rain at many places, while coastal districts will see rain at a few places. The highest maximum temperature recorded was 33.6°C in Paradip, while the lowest minimum temperature was 22.0°C in Phulbani, in the plains of Odisha.
