Railway Officials Suspended As Passenger Train Derails In Koraput

Koraput: As many as five coaches of the 08551 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger special train derailed between Jeypore-Chatriput stations in Koraput district, on Monday.

Following the derailment, a Section Engineer and a Gangman were placed under suspension.

“After passing Jeypore station, One Sleeper Class and three General Coaches got derailed. There were no casualties or injuries as the trollies of the train just got derailed onto sleepers,” the East Coast Railway informed.

There were around 50 to 60 passengers in the bogies which went off the rails. Rescue teams accompanied by doctors and paramedics rushed to the spot following the incident.

Accident Relief Trains have been ordered to proceed to the site, while officers have also rushed to the site for immediate restoration operations.
