Srimandir Rituals Rescheduled For Lunar Eclipse

Puri: The Sri Jagannath temple has rescheduled the rituals of the Holy Trinity on Kartika Purnima (Nov 8) due to the lunar eclipse that falls on the same day.

The Chhattisa Nijog met today in presence of temple officials to finalise the rituals of the shrine.

As per the decision, religious and temple rituals, and cooking-consuming food (Pakatyaga) will begin from 5.54.53 (HH:MM: SS) in the morning on the full moon day.

Suna Besha (golden attire) ritual, also known as Rajadhiraj Besha, of the deities, is performed usually on the Karttika Purnima or Rasa Purnima. However, devotees will not get the opportunity to have a glimpse of the rare attire of Lord Jagannath and his siblings.

Dwarafita Niti will be conducted at 12.10 am and Suna Besha is scheduled to be performed by 2.30 am. It has been decided to complete the Bhogamandap rituals by 5.50 am.

As Mahasnana (divine bath of the deities), Bhoga, and other rituals will be conducted after eclipse totality (Grahan Sparsh) at 2.38.14 (HH:MM: SS), devotees will give a miss to the Suna Besha, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said.

Besides, all the Nijogs (servitor associations) have been requested to carry out rituals in the Vaishnavite shrine smoothly during the Panchuka begining November 4.
