Vigilance Nabs Jharsuguda Senior Clerk While Taking Rs 5k Bribe

Cuttack: The Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested a senior clerk posted in Kirimira of Jharsuguda on charges of demanding and accepting Rs.5,000 bribe for facilitating the release of the arrear bill towards maternity leave.

According to the Vigilance Directorate, Saroj Kanta Nayak, Senior Clerk at the office of Block Education Officer in Kirimira of Jharsuguda has been apprehended for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.5,000 from a complainant for facilitating release of the arrear bill of his spouse (Asst. Teacher) towards maternity leave.

Based on a complaint, a trap was laid today, wherein the accused Senior Clerk was caught by Vigilance sleuths inside his office room at Kirimira while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.5,000 from the complainant.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Nayak and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Nayak gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, the Vigilance added.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the residential house of Nayak at Sarabahal, Kishanpada, PS/Dist-Jharsuguda and his office room at Kirimira. Accused Saroj Kanta Nayak, Senior Clerk has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court.

In this connection, Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No.04 dated 13.02.2023 U/s 7 PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation, the Vigilance informed in a press note.
