Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge Gets Z-Plus Security Cover Ahead of Elections

New Delhi: In a move expected to heighten political campaigning ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has been granted Z-plus security across India. The Union Home Ministry’s decision, based on a threat perception assessment, assigns Kharge the highest level of security provided to individuals in the country.

The Z-plus security cover will be provided by commandos from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). This entails a dedicated team of approximately 30 commandos guarding Kharge in three shifts, along with a bulletproof vehicle, pilot, and escort.

Reports suggest that the decision to elevate Kharge’s security was influenced by his anticipated nationwide campaigning during the election period. As the leader of the main opposition party, Kharge is expected to travel extensively, necessitating enhanced security measures.

The Z-plus category represents the most intensive security level offered in India, reserved for individuals facing significant threats. Other prominent Congress leaders under Z-plus security include former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
