PM Modi Set to Revamp His Ministry Ahead of Coming Assembly & Lok Sabha Polls

New Delhi: Speculations about a possible cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are rife. He is expected to drop “non-performers” and induct new faces. He may opt for this to buckle up for the assembly elections to be held this year as well as the Lok Sabha polls in 2024. , sources said.

It is expected that Modi may bring in some surprising changes in his cabinet to nullify anti-incumbency. Around a dozen heavyweights were dropped at one go during the last cabinet shuffle in July 2021. Within the party, PM Modi’s hard decision will pass on the message that no one is indispensable within the party. This will make PM Modi’s position stronger within his party. BJP is all set to contest future elections cashing on PM Modi’s image.

According to sources, the cabinet reshuffle of the Union government may happen in the third week of January. If it is to be done, PM Modi will prefer to bring in the changes in his ministry before the budget session that will begin in the last week of January.

A total overhaul of the government in Gujarat helped the party come back to power with a record-breaking victory. Similar changes in the Union cabinet cannot be ruled out.

Central cabinet reshuffle will surely coincide with changes in BJP’s organizational positions. It is to be seen whether present BJP president J.P. Nadda continues in his position or not. His tenure expires this month. BJP leaders expect that he may get an extension till the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

Some faces in PM Modi’s probable new cabinet may be from states that are to face assembly elections this year. If this policy is implemented then Rajasthan MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore might be reinducted into the government. Rajasthan will have assembly polls this year.

Assembly polls are to be held in nine in 2023. They are Karnataka, Telengana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and the northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Mizoram.
