Ambati Rayudu Announces Retirement from All Forms of Indian Cricket

Hyderabad: Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu, renowned for his batting skills, has announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket. The announcement came following his sixth Indian Premier League (IPL) title win with the Chennai Super Kings. Rayudu took to Twitter to express his emotions and reflect on his journey.

Rayudu, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, represented India in 55 One Day Internationals (ODIs), amassing 1694 runs with an impressive average of 47.05. He recorded a highest score of 124 not out, including three centuries and 10 fifties. Additionally, he played six T20I matches, scoring 42 runs.

Recalling his debut and expressing gratitude, Rayudu regarded representing his country as a tremendous honour. He fondly remembered the day he received his first India cap in 2013, considering it a cherished memory.

In domestic cricket, Rayudu represented teams such as Hyderabad, Andhra, Baroda, and Vidarbha. He amassed 6,151 runs in 97 first-class matches, averaging 45.56 with 16 centuries and 34 fifties. In List-A cricket, he scored 5,607 runs in 178 matches at an average of 39.08, including five centuries and 40 fifties. His T20 career featured 6,028 runs in 178 matches, with a century and 31 fifties.

Rayudu expressed gratitude towards his IPL franchises, the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, with whom he played. Being part of the Mumbai Indians’ maiden IPL triumph in 2013 and winning the title with the Chennai Super Kings in 2018, 2021, and 2023 were unforgettable moments for him.

During his IPL career spanning 204 matches, Rayudu scored 4,348 runs at an average of 28.23 and a strike rate of 127.24. He notched one century and 22 fifties, with a best score of 100*. He ranks as the league’s 12th-highest scorer.

Rayudu lifted the IPL trophy a remarkable six times, thrice with the Mumbai Indians (2013, 2015, and 2017) and thrice with the Chennai Super Kings (2018, 2021, and 2023). His exceptional performances and numerous titles cement his status as one of the league’s most successful players.

Rayudu also took the opportunity to acknowledge the privilege of playing alongside MS Dhoni, both for the Chennai Super Kings and the Indian team.
