Hardik Pandya’s GT Exit: Titans Chief Explains Reason Behind All-Rounder’s Departure for Mumbai Indians
In a significant IPL trade, Hardik Pandya, the seasoned all-rounder, returned to the Mumbai Indians for a staggering INR 15 crore in cash. The trade came after his successful leadership stint with the Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022 and 2023.
Under Pandya’s captaincy, the Titans clinched the title in their debut season and reached the runner-up position in IPL 2023. Notably, this leadership role has fueled speculation that Pandya is being groomed as India’s future captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma.
The departure of Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans was disclosed by the franchise’s director, Vikram Solanki. Solanki revealed that Pandya wanted to return to his original team, Mumbai Indians. In a statement released on November 27, Solanki acknowledged Pandya’s instrumental role as the first captain of the Gujarat Titans, leading the team to an IPL championship and a final appearance in two seasons. The Titans’ management respected Pandya’s decision and wished him success in his future endeavors.
Solanki said, “As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one IPL championship and one appearance in the final. He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.”
