India Beat Zimbabwe To Gain Unassailable Lead In ODI Series

Harare: India sailed to a five-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, after clinical bowling display by the blue army on Saturday.

It was not quite a domination unlike the first ODI but the paltry 162-run target meant that the KL Rahul-led side did not have to sweat much despite a mid-innings jolt.

It also happened to be India’s 14th ODI victory against Zimbabwe in a row.

Sent into bowl, comeback man Thakur (3/38 in seven overs) brilliantly set it up and became the wrecker-in-chief as the Indian bowlers once again came out on top to skittle out Zimbabwe for 161.

Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Deepak Hooda picked up one wicket apiece for the Men in Blue.

Sean Williams tried to hold the innings together with a 42-run knock before Hooda accounted for his wicket. Ryan Burl also tried his heart out with an unbeaten 39-run knock before running out of partners.

Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill stepped on the gas and put on 42 runs for the second wicket. While Dhawan scored 33 off 21 before Tanaka Chivanga nipped him out, Gill scored 33 and became Jongwe’s victim. However, Samson stayed unbeaten on 43 and helped India chase down the target with as many as 24.2 overs to spare.
