Protesting Wrestlers Recieve Copy of FIR Against WFI Chief

New Delhi: The top wrestlers protesting at the Jantar Mantar were handed over a copy of one of the two FIRs filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), who is accused of sexual harassment on Saturday.

The police have filed FIRs against the WFI president in response to the accusations made by the female wrestlers on Friday night.

The police said that the victim’s family would be the only ones to receive a copy of the second FIR filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, hence it was not given to the wrestlers.

On Saturday morning, the wrestlers arrived at the Connaught Place police station under the leadership of Vinesh Phogat.

In response to the charges of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers, the Delhi Police purportedly filed two FIRs against the departing WFI chairman in the evening after notifying the Supreme Court on Friday that they would do so.

Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, as well as Asian and Commonwealth Games medalist Phogat, are among the top wrestlers who are protesting at the Jantar Mantar to demand that Singh be held accountable for allegedly harassing female wrestlers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police for New Delhi Pranav Tayal stated the following about the FIRs: “The first one relates to charges made by a minor victim and is lodged under the POCSO Act as well pertinent IPC sections of outraging of modesty.

“The second FIR is registered for conducting thorough investigations into the complaints submitted by other, adult complainants under pertinent sections pertaining to outraging of modesty, etc.”.

The DCP had also stated that an investigation into both FIRs was underway.
