Robin Uthappa Announces Retirement From All Forms Of Cricket

Mumbai: India’s T20 World Cup hero Robin Uthappa retired from all forms of Indian cricket on September 14, 2022. Back in 2007, Uthappa became a household name in Indian cricket after helping India win a bowl out against Pakistan in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup.

“It has been my greatest honour to represent my country and my state, Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” the player wrote on Twitter.

“It’s been 20 years since I started playing professional cricket and it has been the greatest honour to represent my country and state, Karnataka – a wonderful journey full of ups and downs; one that has been fulfilling, rewarding, and enjoyable and has allowed me to grow as a human being,” the player wrote in a statement.

“However, all good things must come to an end, and with a grateful heart, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. While I will spend significant time with my young family, I look forward to chatting a new phase of my life,” he further continued.

Uthappa has represented India in 46 ODIs and 13 T20s, scoring 934 and 249 runs respectively. He was also part of the inaugural T20 World Cup winning squad in 2007 in South Africa.

He has also played 142 first-class matches, predominantly for Karnataka, Saurashtra and Kerala, scoring 9446 runs.

Uthappa is the ninth highest run-scorer in IPL history, having made 4952 runs from 205 matches.

The Super King batter was part of the winning team in the 2021 IPL. He played a key part in the victory, scoring 31 (15) in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders and 63 (44) in the Qualifier 1 against Delhi Capitals.
