3 Terrorists, Including Lashkar-Linked Commander Basit Dar Killed In J&K Encounter

Kulgam: In a major win against terrorism, security forces on Tuesday eliminated three terrorists, including notorious Lashkar operative Basit Dar, during an encounter in Kulgam district.

Dar, a top recruiter and perpetrator for the TRF (The Resistance Front), was on the police’s ‘most wanted’ list and carried a hefty bounty of Rs 10 lakh. Inspector-General of Police Kashmir confirmed Dar’s involvement in over 18 killings of police personnel and civilians.

The successful operation stemmed from a tip-off regarding terrorist presence in Kulgam’s Redwani area. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation late Monday night, which subsequently developed into an encounter that continued into Tuesday.

The slain Basit Dar was categorized as an ‘A’ category terrorist by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. This categorization system considers factors like nationality, training, activity duration, attack count, weaponry, and influence.

Concurrently, security forces have intensified combing operations across Poonch and Rajouri districts to apprehend the terrorists responsible for the recent attack on an IAF convoy that tragically claimed the life of a corporal.
