Tamim Iqbal Steps Down as B’desh ODI Captain Citing Back Injury; Set to Miss Asia Cup

Dhaka: Bangladeshi star batsman Tamim Iqbal has stepped down as captain due to a recurring back injury. The injury has ruled him out of the upcoming Asia Cup, which will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.

Tamim, 34, had previously announced his retirement from ODIs during the home series against Afghanistan but later reversed his decision. He now aims to focus on playing and make a strong comeback during the rubber against New Zealand to secure his spot for the World Cup in India.

Tamim’s back injury has been affecting his L4 and L5 vertebrae, the two lowest segments of the lumbar spine. He expects to return to training only by the end of this month, making his focus on playing as crucial as ever.

By stepping down as captain, Tamim aims to concentrate on his performance and give his best whenever the opportunity arises. Bangladesh cricket fans are hopeful for his swift recovery and impactful performances in future matches.
