London: The prize money at this year’s Wimbledon tournament is set to increase by over 11%, with the victorious singles players receiving £2.35 million (₹24,39,85,686).
The All England Club announced that the total prize pool for the championships will amount to £44.7 million (₹4,64,33,68,950), representing a significant 17.1% surge compared to 2019, which was the last Wimbledon held prior to the pandemic.
The prize money for singles champions has now returned to the levels seen in 2019. In 2021, following the cancellation of the tournament in 2020, the prize for singles winners had decreased to £1.7 million, and last year, it stood at £2 million.
Tournament officials have emphasized their commitment to supporting players, particularly in the early rounds. Players who are eliminated in the first round will receive £55,000 (₹57,13,272), a 10% increase from the previous year.
