Outrage as Pregnant Elephant Dies After Being Set Ablaze in Bengal’s Jhargram

Jhargram (WB): A disturbing video from West Bengal’s Jhargram has sparked outrage on social media, showing a wild female elephant dying after being set on fire.

The elephant, reportedly pregnant, suffered severe burn injuries after locals hurled flaming iron nails at it from a nearby home. The injured animal later succumbed to its injuries on the road.

Another video shows a group of individuals holding burning rods and setting the elephant ablaze.

While State Forest Officer Birbaha Hansda refrained from commenting on the incident, a senior forest official confirmed that they were aware of the video and were investigating the matter.

The video has led to widespread condemnation on social media, with users demanding strict action against those responsible.

“A pregnant elephant was killed in #Jhargram, West Bengal, right in front of forest officials by local hullah parties. This horrific act demands immediate action,” one user tweeted, tagging animal rights organisations.

Filmmaker Tathagata Mukherjee and actor Srilekha Mitra also shared the video, expressing their distress and calling for justice.
