India Announce Squad For T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma To Lead, Hardik Pandya Named Deputy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the much-anticipated 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World T20 2024 on Tuesday.

The tournament, co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States, will commence on June 1, shortly after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rohit Sharma will lead the charge for the Men in Blue, with Hardik Pandya named as his deputy.

Rishabh Pant makes a remarkable comeback to the Indian T20I setup after a stellar IPL season following his recovery from a devasting car accident. The southpaw is expected to be India’s primary wicketkeeper, edging out KL Rahul, who has not been included in the squad.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has impressed the selectors and is set to partner skipper Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.

Virat Kohli returns to the T20I fold after a prolific IPL 2024 season. Kohli, the tournament’s leading run-scorer, will be a crucial cog in India’s batting lineup.

The selection committee, following a productive discussion with BCCI officials in Ahmedabad, opted for a blend of experienced and in-form players to challenge for the coveted World T20 title.

India’s squad for T20 World Cup 2024:

Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.
