Ahmedabad: A team of the Mumbai crime branch started a search operation in the Tapi river flowing through Gujarat’s Surat city to recover the pistol used by two men for firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence.

Encounter specialist, senior police inspector Daya Nayak, was also with the Mumbai crime branch team searching for the weapon in the Tapi river water here with the help of local divers and fishermen.

During interrogation, the two arrested accused – Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21) – told the police that they threw the pistol into the Tapi river in Surat from a railway bridge while escaping towards Bhuj in a train from Surat. They reached Surat by road from Mumbai after firing in front of the house of Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartment residence in Bandra area of Mumbai on April 14.

Both were apprehended on April 16 from a temple near Bhuj town in Gujarat by joint teams of the Mumbai and Kutch police.
