Google has announced that it will begin deleting inactive Gmail accounts starting in December 2023. An inactive account is one that has not been used to send or receive emails, sign in to other Google services, or make any other changes to the account in over two years.
Google will send multiple reminder emails to users whose accounts are marked as inactive. These emails will give users the opportunity to log in and keep their accounts active. If an account remains inactive after 8 months, Google will delete it and all of the data associated with it, including emails, contacts, and files.
There are a few things that users can do to keep their Gmail accounts active and prevent them from being deleted. These include:
- Sending or receiving an email at least once every two years.
- Signing in to other Google services, such as YouTube or Google Drive, at least once every two years.
- Making any changes to the account, such as updating the password or adding a new recovery email address.
If you have an inactive Gmail account that you want to keep, be sure to log in and use it at least once every two years.
