Paris Olympics: Bhajan Kaur Arrows Her Way Into Pre-Quarters

Paris: Teenage sensation Bhajan Kaur continued her impressive Olympic campaign, securing back-to-back victories in the women’s individual archery event to advance to the pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday. The 18-year-old from Haryana triumphed over Indonesia’s Syifa Nurafifah Kamal and Poland’s Wioleta Myszor in the opening rounds.

Kaur, who performed outstandingly in the team event despite the loss, showcased her skills in the individual rounds. She defeated Kamal 7-3 (27-27, 27-29, 29-27, 27-25, 28-25) in a gripping opening match. Despite losing the second set, Kaur’s consistent shooting secured her the next three sets.

In her following match, Kaur avenged her compatriot Ankita Bhakat’s defeat by Myszor, dominating with a 6-0 (28-23, 29-26, 28-22) victory. Bhakat had earlier lost to Myszor 4-6 (26-27, 29-26, 28-27, 27-29, 27-28) in the opening round.

Kaur’s round of 16 match is slated for Saturday, with her opponent yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, Ankita Bhakat’s Olympic journey came to a premature end with a 4-6 loss to Myszor in the opening round.
