Champai Soren on His Way to Delhi With JMM Leaders Amid Speculation of Joining BJP: Reports

New Delhi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and senior Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Champai Soren is on his way to Delhi, fuelling speculation of a possible switch to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections.

The visit has triggered a wave of political activity, especially following his recent meeting with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Kolkata. Soren is reportedly accompanied by 4-5 other JMM leaders.

Despite the growing speculation, Champai Soren downplayed rumours of joining the BJP on Saturday, stating, “I don’t know what rumours are being spread. I don’t know what news is being run, so I cannot tell whether it’s true or not. I don’t know anything about it…Hum jahan par hain vahi par hain (I am here only).”

Soren briefly served as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister earlier this year after Hemant Soren was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. His tenure was short-lived, as he resigned in July, allowing Hemant Soren to return as the state’s leader.

The timing of Soren’s visit to Delhi has intensified rumours, particularly with his scheduled meetings with BJP leaders. This follows his recent interaction with former JMM legislator Lobin Hembrom, who has also been linked to the BJP. Soren called the meeting a ‘routine’.

Hembrom was recently disqualified as a JMM MLA under the anti-defection law.
