Sniffer Dogs to Check Wildlife Poaching in Odisha Forests

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s forest department has decided to use trained sniffer dogs against poachers in five wildlife divisions in the state.

According to Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Sushant Nanda, these trained sniffer dogs will be deployed in the Similipal, Satkosia, Debrigad, Hindol, and Athagarh wildlife divisions.

These sniffer dogs will be imparted special training to detect and track poachers. They will also be helpful in identifying traps and snares used by poachers for hunting.

The Odisha forest department has decided to float a global tender to procure the sniffer dogs for the purpose and their training.
