1 Dead, 5 Critically Injured as Picnickers’ Vehicle Hits Parked Truck in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A van of picnickers crashed into the rear end of a parked trailer truck on NH-57 near Takera Square under Nayagarh’s Dasapalla police station limits in the early hours of Thursday killing one passenger and critically injuring five others.

The injured were admitted to Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital.

The ill-fated van was carrying a troupe of 15-16 young picnickers, who were returning from Daringibadi in Kandhamal district to Athagarh in Cuttack district.

The driver of the vehicle could not see the parked truck on a curve on the highway and hit it from the backside. Morning fog and tiredness of the driver are said to be the reason behind this accident.

After receiving information, Dasapalla police and fire brigade reached the spot and rescued the passengers by cutting open the mangled van by gas-cutters. One victim died on the spot, the injured were shifted to hospital.

Earlier in December, eight persons died and seven others were critically injured when the vehicle in which they were traveling crashed to the backside of a parked truck parked on National Highway-20 near Balijodi in Keonjhar, just a few kilometres away from the famous Tarini temple.
