5 Killed, 20 Injured As Oil Tanker Rams Into Tea Stall After Hitting Bus In  Ganjam Dist

Berhampur: Five persons lost their lives when a bus and an oil tanker had a head-on collision in Hinjili area of Ganjam district in Thursday morning. Over 20 persons were also injured when the oil tanker rammed into a roadside tea stall after colliding with the bus.

The accident occurred near the Samarjhola village at around 5.30 am. The bus was travelling from Aska to Berhampur. It collided head-on with the oil tanker, which veered off after the collision and rammed into a roadside tea stall.

The deceased include people at the tea stall and one of the passengers of the bus.

All the injured were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Expressing grief over the accident, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for the kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those critically injured. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister said that the state government would bear the entire cost of the treatment of those injured in the accident.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and leader of the Opposition in the Odisha Legislative Assembly Naveen Patnaik also expressed his grief over the incident through a post on X.
