9 Lakh Cusec Floodwater to Reach Mundali Today, SRC Alerts Collectors

Bhubaneswar: Around 9 lakh cusec of floodwater is likely to cross the Mundali barrage at around noon on Thursday. Keeping it in view, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) directed the collectors of Angul, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara districts to keep watch on weak points on embankments and take precautionary measures. Various rivers in Odisha are on spate due to incessant rainfall in the upper catchment areas during last couple of days. So, flood threat looms in low-lying areas.

For search and rescue operations, 8 NDRF teams, 13 ODRAF teams and 23 Fire Services teams have been deployed in 15 districts– Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balasore, Cuttack, Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada.

At a meeting held yesterday, the SRC had directed the Collectors to evacuate people from waterlogged areas, if required, and sheltered in safe places with the provision of food and drinking water.
