Ravichandran Ashwin Scripts History, Becomes India’s Leading Wicket-Taker in Home Tests

Ranchi: India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin etched his name in the record books on Day 3 of the ongoing 4th Test against England in Ranchi. Ashwin claimed three crucial wickets in the second session, propelling India to a dominant position and achieving a personal milestone in the process.

Ashwin surpassed the legendary Anil Kumble to become the leading wicket-taker in home Tests for India. Ashwin’s 350th, 351st, and 352nd scalps took him past Kumble’s tally of 350 wickets on home soil.

Most wickets for India in home Tests:

  1. Ravichandran Ashwin – 352*
  2. Anil Kumble – 350
  3. Harbhajan Singh – 265
  4. Kapil Dev – 219
  5. Ravindra Jadeja 206*

Ashwin’s bowling spell proved instrumental in restricting England to 120/5 at tea on Day 3. His dismissal of Ollie Pope marked a historic moment, making him the only player in Indian cricket history to surpass the 350-wicket mark in home Tests.

Earlier in the match, Ashwin had already achieved another notable feat by claiming his 100th Test wicket against England.

Last week, Ashwin reached the coveted milestone of 500 Test wickets during the Rajkot Test. However, due to a personal emergency, he had to return home after the day’s play. He rejoined the team in Ranchi and bagged his 501st wicket, prompting a heartfelt message from his wife Prithi.
