Asia Cup 2023, IND vs PAK: India Set 357-Run Target; Kohli Smashes 47th ODI Ton, Becomes Fastest to 13,000 ODI Runs

Colombo: Virat Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 13,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) on Monday, September 11, 2023. He achieved the feat during India’s Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match against Pakistan at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Kohli’s milestone came in his 267th innings, which is 54 innings fewer than the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar. He also scored his 47th ODI century in the same innings, putting him just two centuries away from Tendulkar’s all-time record of 49 centuries.

Kohli entered the crease after Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma gave India a strong start. Unfortunately, Rohit was dismissed by Shadab Khan, and Kohli took his place. Gill, too, fell victim to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s clever bowling.

Rain interrupted the proceedings on Day 1 and the game resumed on the reserve day. When play resumed at 4:40 PM IST, Kohli cautiously began his innings but gradually accelerated, reaching his half-century off 55 balls. He then took on the Pakistani bowlers, forming a solid 100-run partnership with KL Rahul, who made a successful return after recovering from an injury.

Kohli smashed an aggressive 122* (94) while KL Rahul recorded an unbeaten 111* (106) to power India to 356/2 in their 50 overs.
