Bahanaga Train Tragedy: 28 Unclaimed Bodies Cremated

Bhubaneswar: The 28 unclaimed bodies from the tragic triple train accident at Bahanaga in Balasore district on June 2, were cremated at a crematorium in Bharatpur on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night.

The cremation conducted by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the presence of East Coast Railway (ECoR) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials process, started on Tuesday evening and continued throughout the night.

These unclaimed bodies from the train mishap were preserved in special containers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar. They were handed over to the BMC authorities on Tuesday for cremation. The CBI, which is investigating into the Bahanaga train tragedy had requested the Khorda collector for permission to cremate bodies.

The DNA samples of these 28 bodies cremated have been stored for matching in future.

According to official records, a total of 297 passengers were killed in the tragic triple train accident at Bahanaga in Balasore district on June 2.
