Bangladesh One-Day Cricket Captain Shakib Al Hasan Contests Polls to Enter Politics

Dhaka: Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the Bangladesh one-day cricket team, is contesting polls from his home constituency, Magura, as a candidate of the Awami League (AL) party, reported Al Jazeera.

Hasan, currently the captain of Bangladesh’s one-day team, is ranked the number one all-rounder by the International Cricket Council in two of the three formats of the game simultaneously–one-day internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20. He is ranked third in Test matches.

Shakib Al Hasan is the candidate of the Awami League from Magura-1 constituency. He is hopeful to get elected as a first time MP of Bangladesh. Awami League’s Boat symbol is his election symbol.

According to a report in the Dhaka Tribune, while addressing an election rally in Faridpur on Tuesday, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Shakib Al Hasan, “You do not need to give a speech. You can hit a six, and you can take wickets with the ball. Just hit a six again in the election.”
