Passenger Train Set Fire in Bangladesh, At Least 4 Killed

At least four persons died and several others were injured when miscreants torched a passenger train coming from the port town of Benapole, bordering India, in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Friday. This arson occurred ahead of Bangladesh’s general elections which have been boycotted by the main opposition BNP.

According to reports, the targeted train had around 292 passengers, who were returning home from India.

The incident happened around 9 pm on Friday. Four compartments of the Benapole Express were set ablaze as it nearly reached its destination of Dhaka’s Kamalapur railway station.

Led by ex-PM Khalida Zia, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is boycotting the general election as it is demanding an interim non-party neutral government to hold the election. The Bangladesh government headed by PM Sheikh Hasina has rejected the demand.
