BCCI Bans Odisha Ranji Player Sumit Sharma for Age Fraud

Bhubaneswar: For alleged age fraud, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned Sumit Sharma of Odisha Ranji Trophy squad, from playing in any domestic tournament for two years.

BCCI disciplinary committee took action against Sumit for producing multiple age certificates. The certificates he had produced while playing at the junior level in 2015-16 and the ones he furnished for the senior team were different. Sumit, a left-handed batsman who bowls off-breaks.

Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) named Tarini Sa as Sumit’s replacement in the Odisha Ranji team.

In a statement, OCA secretary Sanjay Behera said, “Sumit Sharma, a player of Odisha Senior Men Team, has been disqualified by BCCI to play in BCCI Domestic Tournaments for 2 years as he has produced multiple age certificates i.e. the certificates produced by him when he played Junior Level in the year 2015-16 doesn’t match the ones he produced for the current season.”

Sumit’s disqualification came just before Odisha’s Ranji match against Baroda at the Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara on Friday.
