Below 18 Yrs to Be Barred from Internet Use from 10 PM to 6 AM in China

From September 2, Chinese children and teens will not be able to access the internet at night and will have their smartphone use curbed under new government rules declared on Wednesday. These measures are intended at checking internet addiction.

Under the new restrictions, anyone under the age of 18 will be cut off from using the internet with a mobile device between 10 pm and 6 am.

A system for managing smartphone usage time will also be imposed in China. It will be a maximum of 40 minutes a day for those under the age of eight. It will be two hours for 16- and 17-year-olds.

These stringent new rules are proposed by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). But parents will be able to bypass them if they wish.

Following this declaration, stocks of many leading Chinese internet firms fell on Wednesday.
