Bird Flu Threat: 5,000 Chickens Culled in Pipili, More to Follow

Bhubaneswar: After bird flu confirmation in Pipli area of Puri district, aAround 5,000 chickens in a poultry farm were culled by the special Rapid Response Team (RRT).

The culling operation was taken up at Abalpur near Pipli, the epicenter of the outbreak. As many as 13 RRTs were deputed at the village for the culling process. After culling the farm was sanitized.

According to authorities, chickens in other farms in Abalpur, Baligaan, Nuagadi and some adjacent villages will also be culled. It has been decided to cull around 20,000 chickens in the area.

After culling, as per the protocol, all the chickens were buried with the feeders.

Inhabitants of the area have been cautioned about the highly contagious disease and were advised to stay away from consuming chickens for the time being.

The avian flu infection in the area was confirmed by the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal.
