Diarrhoea Outbreak in Hirakud, One Dead, 49 Under Treatment

Sambalpur: An outbreak of diarrhoea in the Hirakud area of Sambalpur district claimed the life of one person and 49 others were affected by the disease.

Ten of the diarrhoea patients were shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) as their condition deteriorated.

According to local medical authorities, till now 127 patients have been infected with ‘diarrhoea’ in Sambalpur’s Hirakud in the last two days.

Contaminated drinking water is said to be the reason behind this diarrhoea outbreak at Gurudwarapada, Goudapada, Kalopada, Machhapada, and New Market Colony of Hirakud area.

The Sambalpur CDMO has submitted a report to the District Collector about this recent diarrhoea outbreak. Residents of the diarrhoea-hit areas have been advised to drink boiled water.
