ECoR Achieves Major Milestone: Boudh District Gets Rail Connectivity

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully completed and commissioned the Jharmunda-Boudh railway section, marking a significant milestone in the Khurda Road-Balangir rail link project. This 16.27 km stretch now connects Boudh district to the western Odisha railway network.

The Commissioner of Railway Safety recently inspected the 29.75 km Sonepur-Purunapani-Jharmunda section, bringing the district even closer to comprehensive rail connectivity.

With this development, the total commissioned length of the 301 km Khurda Road-Balangir project stands at 183 km. The ECoR is executing the project in phases from both Khurda Road and Balangir to expedite completion. While the 106 km stretch from Khurda Road to Daspalla and the 77 km section from Balangir to Jharmunda are already operational, the upcoming Boudh-Purunakatak section (27 km) is expected to be finished in the next few months.

The Sonepur-Purunapani-Jharmunda section is a complex engineering feat, encompassing one important bridge, seven major bridges, four road over bridges, 22 road under bridges/limited height subways, and 65 minor bridges. Similarly, the Jharmunda-Boudh section includes six major bridges, one road over bridge, 12 road under bridges/limited height subways, 37 minor bridges, and a substantial amount of earthwork.

The Ministry of Railways is closely monitoring this crucial project, which is set to transform the lives of people in remote areas. By adopting a dual approach to construction, the ECoR aims to meet the project deadline efficiently.
