New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has urged all states and union territories in India to implement a minimum age of six years for admission to Grade 1, starting from the academic session 2024-25.
This initiative aligns with the guidelines outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.

In a letter addressed to state and UT education departments, Archana Sharma Awasthi, Joint Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy, highlighted the upcoming academic session and the expectation for states to comply with the 6+ age requirement for Grade 1 admissions.
