Election Commission Stops Haryana Govt from Recruiting 5,600 Constables

New Delhi: The Election Commission has directed the Haryana Government not to declare the results for the recruitment of 5,600 police constables till the end of Assembly elections in the state.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh took up the matter with the poll body. The ECI came up with this directive on Wednesday. The elections in Haryana are to be held on October 1. The results will be declared on October 4.

In his representation before the ECI, Ramesh alleged that on August 16, the day on which the schedule for the Assembly elections was announced, the Haryana government advertised the recruitment of constables in violation of the model code of conduct.

The EC said it was found that the process was initiated before the imposition of the code. However, to maintain a level playing field and prevent undue advantage to any party, the state government had been ordered to withhold the declaration of the results.

The Haryana government first announced and subsequently issued the advertisement for recruitment against 5,600 vacancies for the post of constable in the Haryana Police.
