Ahmedabad: At least five persons are alleged to have died during the past two days after consuming contaminated ayurvedic syrup in Gujarat’s Kheda district. Two persons are also hospitalized after consumption of the same Ayurvedic syrup.
According to police sources, initial investigation hints that the said Ayurvedic syrup was containing lethal methyl alcohol.
A police probe has revealed that around 50 persons had bought the ayurvedic syrup, branded as ‘Kalmeghasav – Asava Arishta’, from a shopkeeper in Bilodara village near Nadiad town of Gujarat’s Kheda district.
The blood sample report of a villager, who had consumed the Ayurvedic syrup has confirmed that it was contaminated methyl alcohol.
Police have taken three persons into custody, including the shopkeeper, for further interrogation.
