Former Odisha Governor MM Rajendran Passes Away at 88

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha governor M M Rajendran passed away at the age of 88 on Saturday. He was being treated in a private hospital in Chennai. He is survived by his wife Suseela Rajendran, two sons and a daughter.

Rajendran was the 1957-batch IAS topper. He rose to the post of Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. After the 1999 super cyclone, he took charge as the Governor of Odisha.

Rajendran’s experience as district collector of Ramanathapuram in relief and rehabilitation during a cyclone in Dhanushkodi in 1964 helped him to come up with an efficient response plan to disasters in Odisha.

Rajendran was also a member of UNICEF’s executive board and vice chairman of its program committee at New York.

Odisha Governor Raghubar Das mourned his demise and expressed his condolences to the bereaved family.
