Full Curfew Clamped in 5 Districts of Manipur

Imphal: A full curfew was imposed in all five valley districts of Manipur from Tuesday evening as a preventive measure to curb violence.

The curfew relaxation hours were cancelled in Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, Imphal West and Imphal East. This decision was taken because of the call by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) and its women’s wing requesting people from all parts of the valley districts to remove an army barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district on Wednesday.

In these five districts there was curfew relaxation from 5 am to 6 pm daily.

Movement of persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, petrol pumps, schools/colleges, municipality, media, functioning of courts and flight passengers would be exempted from the curfew, said official sources.

Locals allege because of the barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai in the Bishnupur district, they were not able to visit their residences at Torbung, which they had vacated after violence broke out on May 3.
