6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Indonesia’s Halmahera

Halmahera, Indonesia: A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Halmahera, Indonesia, on Monday, September 11, 2023. The earthquake was centred 160 kilometres (99.42 miles) below the surface.

There have been no reports of damage or injuries so far. However, the earthquake was felt in several cities and towns in Halmahera, including Tobelo, Galela, and Ternate.

The earthquake is said to have been caused by the movement of the Halmahera Fault, which is a major fault line that runs through the island of Halmahera. The Halmahera Fault is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region of the world that is prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
