Imran Khan Arrested Again After getting Respite in Toshakhana Case

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested again in another case on Tuesday, a few hours after the Islamabad High Court released him on bail in the Toshakhana graft case.

This time he was arrested in the cipher case, under the Official Secrets Act. In this case the former PM of Pakistan Imran Khan is accused of misusing a confidential diplomatic cable (cipher) for political purposes while he was in power in Pakistan.

This means he will not be able to come out of jail and will remain in judicial custody. He will be produced in court on Wednesday (August 30) in the cipher case.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court suspended Imran Khan’s three-year sentence in the Toshakhana corruption case and ordered his release from jail. On August 5, a trial court in Islamabad convicted and sentenced the 70-year-old Imran Khan to three years in prison in The Toshakhana case.

Imran Khan is barred from politics for five years. He will be unable to contest an upcoming election.
