In Biggest Seizure, STF Seizes 10.5 Kg Opium in Rourkela, 2 Inter-State Drug Traffickers Arrested

Bhubaneswar: Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch during a raid in Rourkela seized opium weighing 10 Kg 508 grams and other incriminating materials. It is said to be the biggest opium seizure in Odisha.

Two inter-state drug traffickers were arrested in connection with this opium seizure. They were identified as Bitu Singh and Rohit Munda of Jharkhand.

Acting on a tip-off, the STF with the help of Rourkela police conducted the raid at the Panposh area to seize the opium and arrest the drug-traffickers.

Interrogation of the arrested duo has revealed that they had procured the opium from Rajasthan and were to deliver it to drug peddlers of Sundargarh, Rourkela, and Jharkhand.

In India, legal cultivation of opium is allowed in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
