Absconding Ex-IIC Arrested for Involvement in Brown Sugar Smuggling

Bhubaneswar: Personnel of the Odisha Crime Branch arrested former Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jaleswar police station Dhaneswar Sahu from Narasinghpur area of Cuttack district on Friday for his involvement in a brown sugar smuggling case. He was absconding since more than three and half years.

In 2020, Dhaneswar Sahu’s involvement in brown sugar smuggling came to the fore when a purported audio clip containing his conversation with brown sugar smugglers went viral on social media.

Following it, he was suspended from service by the Odisha DGP. An investigation was also ordered into his alleged link with brown sugar smugglers.

After being suspended, he was absconding. The sleuths of the Crime Branch arrested Dhanseswar Sahu from his house at Narsinghpur in Cuttack on Friday.
